Take control of power transfer with LOVATO Electric’s GLCM Motorised Changeover Switches
Reliable Power Transfer. Smarter Control. When power continuity matters, having the right switching technology makes all the difference.
Introducing the GLCM range of motorised changeover switches from LOVATO Electric, designed to provide controlled transfer between two power sources, with flexible operation, practical installation features and optional communication capabilities.
Suitable for applications ranging from generating sets and data centres to hospitals and commercial buildings, the GLCM range gives panel builders, OEMs and electrical engineers a flexible solution for low-voltage power transfer.
With multiple current ratings, 3-pole and 4-pole configurations, and optional RS485 communication, the range can be configured to meet a variety of system requirements.

One switch. Two power sources. Greater control.
Designed around an open-transition I-0-II switching arrangement, GLCM motorised changeover switches use two mechanically interlocked switch-disconnectors to manage the connection between power sources.
The three positions allow the switch to connect to source I, move to position 0, or connect to source II. This makes the range suitable for installations where controlled changeover between alternative supplies is required.
The switches can be electrically operated or manually operated, giving engineers flexibility when designing and managing their systems.
The result? A versatile switching solution that supports both electrical control and hands-on operation, depending on the application and operating requirements.

Built around your application
Different installations demand different electrical ratings. The GLCM range offers a choice of sizes and configurations to support a broad range of low-voltage switching applications.
For IEC/EN/BS versions, the range includes:
Size 1: 125A, 160A, 200A, 250A and 315A.
Size 2: 320A, 400A and 630A.
UL1008 versions are available in 100A and 200A ratings.
All electrical sizes are available in 3-pole and 4-pole versions, helping engineers select a configuration that suits their system design.
The product documentation references IEC 60947-6-1 for transfer switching equipment, IEC 60947-3 for low-voltage switchgear and controlgear, and UL1008 for the relevant North American market.
Whether you’re developing a new panel or specifying switching equipment for an existing installation, the range provides options to help match the switching solution to the project

Manual or motorised? You choose.
Flexibility doesn’t stop at electrical ratings. GLCM motorised changeover switches are designed to accommodate both automatic electrical operation and manual intervention.
The automatic/manual selection lever, highlighted in the image above, determines the operating mode. In AUTO mode, electrical operation is enabled through the control terminals or, when the optional EXP1012 module is installed, via communication.
In MANUAL mode, electrical operation is disabled and the supplied direct handle can be fitted to operate the switch manually.
The handle is padlockable in position 0 and can be stored in its holder when not in use. When fitted to the switch, it inhibits electrical operation.
A separate locking latch also allows electrical control to be disabled when the relevant locking procedure is applied.
These features give engineers practical options for operating and securing the switch during installation, maintenance and system management.
Simplify wiring with optional RS485 communication
The new LOVATO Electric P1X19 range comprises two types, designed for different pole configurations.
With the optional EXP1012 RS485 expansion module, GLCM motorised changeover switches can communicate using the Modbus-RTU protocol.
This enables a compatible master device, such as an automatic transfer switch (ATS) controller, programmable logic controller (PLC) or software system, to command the switch to positions I, 0 or II.
Communication also supports advanced diagnostics, including monitoring switch status, electrical measurements and alarms.
Compared with traditional arrangements using separate command and feedback wiring, the RS485 approach can reduce the number of connections required. It also enables more detailed monitoring and faster identification of communication or system faults
For engineers looking to integrate switching equipment into a wider control architecture, this optional capability provides a practical route to more connected power management.
Additional expansion modules are available for relay outputs, with configurable functions covering operating mode, switch position, alarms and other status conditions.
Designed for visibility and easier diagnostics
Knowing what your equipment is doing is just as important as being able to control it.
The GLCM range incorporates status LEDs to indicate power supply, communication, operating mode and warnings or alarms. Flashing patterns identify different warning and alarm conditions, helping users investigate issues.
An infrared optical port provides a connection point for the optional CX01 USB device. This supports firmware upgrades, programming, monitoring and advanced diagnostics through the relevant software tools.
The switches also feature removable terminal blocks for power supply and control connections, snap-on auxiliary contacts and provision for additional expansion modules.
Together, these features help make configuration, monitoring and integration more straightforward for engineers working with the equipment.
Ready for demanding applications
Wherever alternative power sources need to be managed, choosing suitable switching equipment is essential.
GLCM motorised changeover switches are identified for applications including:

Data centers
Power distribution systems where alternative supplies may form part of the installation’s power strategy

Hospitals
Electrical systems designed around the site’s power continuity requirements.

Generating sets
Switching between available power sources

Shopping centers
Commercial power distribution installations

Public transport
Electrical infrastructure supporting transport facilities

Firefighting applications
Installations where the electrical system must meet the specific requirements of the application.
The correct switch rating, configuration and control arrangement will depend on the installation design and applicable standards.
Why choose LOVATO Electric?
Selecting switching equipment is about more than choosing an ampere rating. Engineers need a solution that fits their electrical design, control requirements and installation environment.
With the GLCM range, LOVATO Electric brings together multiple current ratings, 3-pole and 4-pole options, manual and electrical operation, and optional communication and diagnostic capabilities.
The range also includes a padlockable manual operating handle and holder as standard, alongside the bolts and screws required for terminal connections.
For projects requiring integration with a wider control system, optional expansion modules provide additional communication and relay output functionality.
