Reliability and the ability to properly operate in all conditions
have become the main requirements for power factor regulators but
they must also be able to detect any critical condition in order to
protect power factor equipment.
The voltage and current
measuring inputs have digital band-pass filters, which warrant
consistent operation, even with systems characterised by high
harmonic distortion.
A special algorithm is able to calculate
capacitor overload current and provide the required protection by
disconnecting it.
Another algorithm is able to calculate the exact
amount of reactive power required to correct power factor and
thereby connect or disconnect the single capacitor.
The
result is a substantial reduction of the number of operations and a
homogenous wear of steps having equal rating. It is possible to
monitor the panel temperature by means of the built-in sensor or by
external probe and control a cooling fan or disconnect the
capacitors in over-temperature conditions.
By using one of the
latest generation of 16-bit microprocessors in the DCRJ12F
controller, the following functions have been implemented:
-
Protection against harmonic overload of the capacitors on all three
phases
- Logging of events related to capacitor harmonic overloads
-
Analysing the line voltage and current harmonics
- Analysing the
waveform harmonics of line voltages and currents previously logged
during harmonic overload events.
A set-up and supervision software is
available.
