New models of modular battery chargers using switching technology to ensure the continuity of electricity supply in emergency systems – One of the latest LOVATO Electric offers.
Some applications require operation continuity even when problems on power supply systems occur. Just consider the need for constant electricity supply to facilities, such as hospitals, or electric panels in mobile phone systems.
The application of a standby system consisting of a UPS or generating set with diesel or liquid-gas engine is often used to meet the needs for uninterruptible power supply.
Exactly on the main systems used to provide emergency power supply is where the new LOVATO Electric BCF battery chargers with switching technology can be used.
Used primarily to maintain the charge of engine batteries in generating sets or of backup batteries in electric panels, the BCF preserves the optimal charge level of battery power and makes it available at the maximum capacity when the emergency system must step in.
At the same time, these chargers are designed to protect the battery and the system in case of malfunctions during normal operation or caused by improper connections.
Integrated with the existing BCE types which use linear technology, as mentioned, these new models use switching technology that is replacing the traditional linear technique not always efficient in terms of energy output, and helps optimise power consumption, heat dissipation and space occupied by the devices.
Specifications
The BCF battery chargers have a plastic five-module housing, suitable for mounting both on 35mm DIN rail or on a rear plate of a panel with screws. They have a wide supply voltage range of 100 ... 240VAC and are used to charge with a typical to the constant current and voltage curve, lead-acid batteries with rated 12 or 24VDC and 1.25 to 4.5A current output.
Extremely easy to use, the BCF provides protection against short circuits and reverse polarity on battery terminals, low battery voltage and disconnected battery and has two indicating LEDs for correct output voltage and reverse polarity as well as a relay output for remote alarms.
In case of the battery charger malfunction during normal operation, the output fuse blows disconnecting the unit.
