The life and reliability of an installation are strictly bound to the choice of components and technological solutions adopted. Special care must be given to the starting phase of equipment. The method of motor starting must contemplate the coupled equipment as well as the relative mechanical feedback obtained from the installation.
From the extensive Lovato Electric experience in the field of motor starters, the concept of motor starting and stopping under torque control has been the basis of ADX soft starter series development and design. In the starting phase, the torque ramp consents to the progressive and constant transfer of power from the motor shaft to the equipment.

The stopping cycle can be achieved either directly by free wheel, steadily by
deceleration ramp or by dynamic braking to considerably reduce stopping time particularly useful for emergency stops.

In addition up to 245A ratings, the ADX soft starters also include an internal by-pass contactor which permits to exclude the power circuit once starting is complete and the subsequent SCR disabling and thus reducing residual dissipation to a minimum but maintaining at the same time all motor protections and total control. The ADX starters comprise essential features to obtain exceptional operation for a number of diversified field applications, including pumping, compressors, machinery, refineries, refrigeration and conveying systems.

For pumps, the functions for excellent running are torque control during deceleration to eliminate water hammering, minimum torque control for dry-running protection, 2-wire start control with programming delay time in case of starting via level controls and an automatic function for alarm resetting as well as automatic pump starting. In addition, if analog level metering is available, the ADX starter has multifunction inputs configurable to start and stop the pump motor at precise preset levels. There is also a programmable relay, which can be enabled in relation to the two preset levels.

Lovato Electric ADX starters are available in 18 ratings between 17 and 1200A, in open-type version and include accessories to remote control operation.
